What this actually is

Official program. 14 hours a week.

Spain's Ministry of Education places graduates from eligible countries inside Spanish public schools as language conversation assistants. You help students practice English. The school provides the structure. You provide the native-language presence.

The remaining 126 hours of your week? That's Spain.

What you actually get

  • €800/month official government stipend, some regions pay above this
  • 14 hours per week inside a Spanish public school, the rest of Spain is yours
  • 7 months minimum (November to May), Madrid extends to June
  • Official student/language visa for the duration, simpler than a work visa
  • NIE number, your gateway into Spanish banking, residency and the system
  • Your months count toward Spain's long-term residency (PR) 5-year clock
  • Community, professional references, and a genuine foothold in Spain

What it isn't

  • Not a generic internship, this is Spain's Ministry of Education, not a company
  • Not requiring Spanish, you assist with English (or your native language)
  • Not full-time, 14 hours a week, designed to leave you time to live in Spain

Common questions

Before you apply.

Is the €800/month the real amount?

+

€800/month is the official base stipend set by Spain's Ministry of Education for the Auxiliares de Conversación program. Some autonomous communities pay above the base. We know which regions pay more.

Do I need to speak Spanish to apply or work?

+

No. The whole point is that you bring native-level English to Spanish students learning it. Outside school, basic Spanish helps for daily life but isn't required for the program or visa.

Does my degree field matter?

+

Not for this program. They look for native or near-native English speakers who are graduates or students. Your field of study doesn't affect eligibility.

Can I renew, or stay in Spain after?

+

The program allows up to 3 consecutive yearly renewals, and each year counts toward the 5-year clock for long-term residency. Common next steps: renewing, a work visa, or starting a master's.
