Germany Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte)
Germany's Opportunity Card lets qualified people come to Germany to look for skilled work on the ground, without needing a job offer first. It is a points-based, up-to-one-year residence permit with limited part-time work allowed while you search.
Who it's for
Skilled workers who want to job-search inside Germany, either with a fully recognised qualification or by scoring enough points.
What it takes
- ·A recognised foreign qualification, or enough points on the Opportunity Card grid
- ·Baseline language (around German A1 or English B2) and proof of funds to support yourself
- ·The financial means to live while searching (part-time and trial work is allowed)
You can be in Germany, interviewing and trialling roles, instead of applying blind from abroad.
You must fund yourself during the search, and the card is time-limited; it is a search permit, not a work permit on its own.
